"Art is my life, color is my exaltation, line and form my soul, and the intellectual content is my quest."
Barr's paintings are inspired by social and spiritual relationships: the oneness of the universe
and the manifestation of form from nothingness. She attempts to imply the
oneness of all through the merging and emerging of forms and space.
Barr explores worldly tensions in her use of papers, fabrics and netting; by creating reliefs,
stamping with textured stamps, and applying detail. Even a flat color or smooth surface carries a textural message for her. Her lines and colors can either
whisper or shout depending on her pallet. The presence, juxtaposition
and absence of all that she uses is dictated by her comment and the intensity she feels
in expressing it.
Barr offers the viewers a twofold experience. Initially
she would like them
to draw close and become sensually involved in the colors and textures. Then she invites them to participate by exploring the idea behind the image
and to read themselves into her story. The viewer's participation on both levels is essential to complete her work.
