Of
her work, Andrea Leland states: "...when
traveling [throughout the Caribbean
and Latin America] my senses are
heightened and I develop a keen
sense of how the people fit within
the landscape emotionally, politically
and visually. Using intense colors
and working completely intuitively
I began to paint and draw landscapes
and fruits that are bold, bright
and passionate. The use of color,
form, texture all evoke a sense
of emotion and create a direct
vehicle for my own passion and
self expression. The paintings
are active, packed with energy
and suggestive of culture reduced
to its essence."
