Annie Caswell Artist Self PortraitFor Annie Caswell there is no separating art from life. Her life is art. Her passionate and introspective creativity fuels her soul. Her subject matter is the dance of emotions in life's every moment, and the transformation of her ideas from conception to completion is her challenge - and her inspiration.

Annie has traveled extensively, her experience with various cultures and traditions is evident her work; in its content, expression and the medium. When traveling she paints and sculpts using local natural resources such as sand, twigs, and even snow.

Practicing as a freelance artist since 1981, Annie has been involved in a variety of design projects ranging from painting murals, fusing glass, creating wooden mobiles, illustrating, painting and, most recently, figurative sculpting in clay.

The human form fascinates her but even more she is attracted to the myths and aura of the goddess. The history and relics of the goddess imagery intrigues Annie, and her curiosity is stimulated by the stories behind the dieties, whose cultures tended to be egalitarian, earth centered and non violent.

People worldwide, past and present, inspire her as she works in the clay interpreting the stories through body shapes and postures, their clothing and movements. Annie strives to awaken the spirit, to invoke a feeling, and to remain true to herself.

Annie holds an associate degree in photography and a bachelors of fine arts with a cultural studies minor, yet she considers herself a self-taught sculptor and painter. She enjoys teaching and has taught at a number of organizations including her Creative Crossings Art Studio and Frog Hollow in Burlington, Vermont. Her work has been exhibited in Europe and the USA.
