Aphrodite has
loved to sketch all her life.
In 1988 her award winning paintings,
exhibited at the Greater Haverhill
Arts Association in Haverhill
MA, drew the attention of Boston's
Copley master artist, Mark Hayden.
Aphrodite worked with Mr. Hayden
honing her skills for two years
when he directed her to a workshop
led by New York N. A. master artist
Daniel E. Greene under whom she
then studied portraiture over
a period of three years.
While continuing her portrait
studies with Mr. Hayden, Aphrodite
painted sports figures which included
Kirby Puckett, Mo Vaughn, Drew
Bledsoe, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson,
Ray Bourque, and Dino Radja. Many
of these originals can be viewed
at the New England Sports Museum
in Boston, MA.
In 1996 a visit to the tropics
evoked a new direction of subject
matter for the New England native.
Since then Aphrodite has established
herself as a Caribbean artist
in the US Virgin Islands, winning
numerous awards at the annual
tri-island Caribbean Color exhibitions.
Currently Aphrodite is a member
of the St. John Arts Association
USVI where she serves on the board,
a member of the St. Thomas / St.
John Arts Council and a member
of the Citrus County Arts League.
".. I must say this
is an exciting endless learning
process where ideas never cease
and new and greater challenges
constantly arise. .. I (therefore)
know this endeavor will continue
to captivate me ... for a lifetime".
