Born
and raised in Montreal, and having
spent some time in California,
Vermont, and Quebec, Barr arrived
in Coral Bay in late 1999. Painting
up a storm and traveling, as she
will, through various forms of
media, Barr creates bold and,
usually colorful, images; (exceptions
are her inimitable pen & ink
and graphite drawings).
Despite several years formally
studying the studio arts Barr
considers herself to be a self
taught artist who has been always
been hooked on visual self expression.
Color
is her strength. Influenced by
such artists as Matisse and Gauguin,
her color can at times evoke a
Fauvist essence. She doesn't follow
many of the traditional rules
and says that by calling herself
a mixed media artist she is giving
herself the license to create
with whatever tools or media that
suits her fancy. The word "eclectic" is
appealing to her but in truth
there is a very definitive style
of expression and content that
tends to keep her varied sequential
creative trends cohesive.
Currently
Barr's work hangs on the wall
of Syzygy Gallery amongst other
talented, often internationally
recognized, local St. John artists.
A complete bio and and a taste
of her work can be found on her
website: www.colorandpassion.com.
Her works can be purchased through
the gallery or this website.
Barr also leads workshops
for children and adults in mixed
media techniques including silk
painting, custom stampwork, and
small relief art. She is a founding
member of the Artists Association
of St John Inc.
