Lisa
Etre grew up on US
Virgin Island of St Croix. After
high school Lisa entered American
University in Washington DC
and graduated in 1975 with a
BA in Art. She took a year to
travel Mexico and South America
before refocusing her attention
on her art by registering at
the Instituto Allende, San Miguel
de Allende Mexico to study painting
and printmaking.
In '79 Lisa returned to St Croix
and held her first professional
exhibition. She then sailed north
to the smaller US Virgin Island
of St John where she stayed and
worked for several years, leaving
to pursue her master's degree
at the University of New Mexico.
In 1984 Lisa Etre returned again
to the islands and started teaching
art at the Ivanna Eudora Kean
High School on St Thomas where
now, 25 years later, as head of
the department she continues to
teach.
Side by side with her teaching
career, Lisa has never stopped
developing her artistic expressions.
Her colorful graphic prints and
giftware items are known throughout
the Caribbean. She has been published
in Islands Magazine, illustrated
for Simon & Schuster's "On
white Sail" and was a featured
artist on the set of the Bill
Cosby Show. Five years ago Lisa
returned to landscape painting
on canvas in a looser more painterly
style. She still designs for various
local and national companies.
She is a founding member of the
Artists Association of St John
inc.
