Marie
Lou’s generously scaled
canvases, with layers of floating
strokes, emphatic gestures and
colors have a freshness, spontaneity
and audacity that could well have
the marks of an exuberant new
talent.
Her paintings seem to be
born with the assurance of a profound
understanding of the ocean and
the present world of sailing and
racing. Her current palette
consists primarily of Caribbean
Ocean tones : purple, green, white
and a full of spectrum of blue
occasionally flushing into pinks
or snapping into red, yellow or
gold. Colors are applied roughly
into and onto one another, so
that an unlimited range of blue
is modulated and stimulated in
a very peaceful way...just like
the dance of the ocean, strong
and still, dictated by a cumulative
rhythm of the emotions of the
waterworld.
Marie Lou has done several Atlantic
crossings
on a 76’private sailing
boat. She has a whole hearted
belief in showing the artist’s
concerns : finding and consolidating
the role of the movement, the
speed and the stillness; in creating
space by using splashes and winds,
so the viewer can enter the ocean
and feel the emotion of surfing
over the wake, and feel the fresh
and tonic breeze of the flying
boats.
The artist Marie Lou is the sailor
of her art.
