Pauline
Walsh Jacobson was
born in 1949 in Port Arthur,
Texas. Growing up on the Texas
coast, she spent a lot of
time at the beach and fishing
with her Dad, and grew to
love the ocean and seashore.
She graduated in 1972 from
Lamar University in Beaumont,
Texas with a Bachelor of Science
degree in Fine Art. In 1973,
Pauline moved to Austin, and
took a job with the State
of Texas, where she received
training in cartography (mapmaking).
Pauline spent the next 15
years drawing maps, and another
15 years in management and
sales of digital maps and
software.
During
her years as graphic designer
Pauline had the opportunity to
create and publish music posters
for local venues, including Willie
Nelson’s Austin Opry House.
Several of her posters are now
in the permanent collection of
the University of Texas Center
for American History in Austin.
During this same time period Pauline
painted watercolors in her evenings
and on weekends and exhibited
them both locally and nationally.
Pauline snorkeled for the first
time in Cozumel during her honeymoon
in 83. Once again she fell in
love with the ocean. She became
certified and began photographing
marine life.
In
1998 Pauline and her husband bought
a small "fixer upper" home
on St. John in the U.S. Virgin
Islands. They still travel back
and forth between the islands
and Texas but look forward to
living on St John full time soon.
They continue to participate in
frequent dive expeditions to study
and photograph marine life, and
are active supporters of a number
of marine and coral reef conservation
organizations. In 2001, Pauline
quit her job and became fully
focused on her fine art career.
ARTIST STATEMENT: Pauline Walsh
Jacobson has been painting in
watercolor for over 30 years.
All of her paintings are done
from her own photographs, memories
and or life. she specializes in
painting marine life and tropical
subjects in watercolor and scuba
dive and take underwater photographs
to use as subject matter. To look
below the ocean's surface and
observe life on a coral reef is
something that few people have
experienced. The world's coral
reefs are in trouble and they
might be gone someday if we dont
take better care of our oceans.
Through her paintings and photographs,
she wants to show the beauty of
ocean ecosystems, coral reefs
and tropical coastal environments
to the world in hopes that they
will be proytected and preserved.
Pauline also paint birds, animals,
florals and landscape.
